The Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators presents the 2010 Student Scholarship Competition featuring the works of over one hundred of today’s top college level illustration students.
A jury of professional peers including illustrators and art directors have chosen the most outstanding works created throughout the year. Pieces are accepted based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used. After reviewing 6,205 submissions, only 194 were selected for this year’s Exhibition, and 33 received financial awards.
The Society as well as various other generous private and corporate donors grant over $50,000 in scholarships to the best students featured in the competition. This year, students receiving awards will also collect gift certificates donated by Dick Blick Art Materials (http://www.dickblick.com). Beginning May 5 through May 29, 2010, the Museum of American Illustration will display the student’s original artwork as well as a full color catalog. Awards and certificates will be given to the students during the Opening Reception on May 7, 2010.
Also awarded during the Opening Reception are this year’s Distinguished Educators in the Arts. Robert Barrett of Brigham Young University will be honored with the Contemporary Distinguished Educator. Don Ivan Punchatz of the Texas Christian University will be awarded posthumously. This prestigious award is presented to an educator who has made a strong impact on illustration as both a teacher and an artist.
