Bill Plympton presents The Resurrection of Winsor McCay's 'The Flying House'

February 08, 2012  6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Winsor McCay is considered to be the “father of animation”. He is probably best known for his newspaper comic strip, Little Nemo in Slumberland (1905-14 and 1924-27), and the animated short film, Gertie and the Dinosaur (1914). Shortly before publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst put an end to his animated films, McCay created one of his greatest shorts, The Flying House.

Independent animator Bill Plympton has resurrected the film by digitally retouching and coloring each frame. This version also includes voice overs from actors Matthew Modine and Patricia Clarkson. Bill will be here to premiere the newly restored The Flying House at the Society of Illustrators.

Special appearances of voice artists Patricia Clarkson and Matthew Modine.

Cocktail reception to follow.
