Cartoon College
A film by Josh Melrod and Tara Wray

July 23, 2013  7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

A hit at film festivals around the world, CARTOON COLLEGE is the charmingly bittersweet documentary that introduces us to the next generation of graphic storytellers… and a school where they learn the harsh realities of being an artist. Each year the Center for Cartoon Studies invites twenty aspiring cartoonists to the ramshackle village of White River Junction, Vermont for a no-holds-barred education in comics. Think that sounds like a laugh? Think again—they don’t call CCS’s first year curriculum “the boot camp” for nothing. Besides, for these emerging cartoonists there’s more at stake than just earning a degree: this is about making art, which, for those who choose to do it, may as well be everything.

Featuring appearances by some of the biggest names in independent comics (Art Spiegelman, Lynda Barry, Chris Ware, among many others), CARTOON COLLEGE is a thoughtful, quirky, and surprisingly heartfelt film that Henry Northmore of The List called “an absolutely fascinating look at a new generation of artists/writers.”

A panel discussion will take place after the film.  Panelists include R. Sikoryak and Robyn Chapman.
