The Society of Illustrators presents
A NIGHT OF OLD-TIME MUSIC
with performances by
Eden & John's East River String Band and special guests Robert Crumb, Pat Conte,
Ernesto Gomez and the Dust Busters
Ari Eisinger is a guitarist and singer from Pennsylvania most noted as a proponent of Piedmont blues guitar from the 1920s-1930s. He is a significant authority on the music of Rev.Gary Davis, Blind Blake, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Boy Fuller, and Josh White amongst others. He is known for his series of instructional videos on the subject, as well as touring internationally, leading seminars and workshops on the methods and practice of fingerstyle blues music from this era.
Dom Flemons is the banjo player/singer of the grammy nominated string band Carolina Chocolate Drops. On stage Dom rolls from one instrument to another with a fearless attitude toward tradition and repertoire. He has been touring the world for the past four years with his band and as a solo performer.
David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine says "Eden & John's East River String Band are white city folk- singer/ukulele player Eden Brower and singer-guitarist John Heneghan from New York's East Village- who cover black country blues from the 78-rpm era with crisp fervor. They don't strain for authenticity, but they address songs with a natural flair that suggests loving study and a respect for the hard lives and fight for joy on the original records." They will be joined by special guests Robert Crumb (Cheap Suit Serenaders), old-time music legend Pat Conte (Canebreak Rattlers & Otis Brothers), Ernesto Gomez (Brotherhood of The Jug Band Blues) and The Dust Busters (Walker Shepard, Eli Smith and Craig Judelman) who just released "Prohibition Is Failure" with folk legend John Cohen.
