The Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators presents the 2012 Student Scholarship Competition featuring the works of over two hundred of today’s top college level illustration students.
A jury of professional peers including illustrators and art directors have chosen the most outstanding works created throughout the year. Pieces are accepted based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used. After reviewing 8,119 submissions, only 253 were selected for this year’s Exhibition.
The Society as well as various other generous private and corporate donors grant scholarships to the best students featured in the competition. Beginning May 9 through June 2, 2012, the Museum of American Illustration will display the student’s original artwork as well as a full color catalog. Awards and certificates will be given to the students during the Opening Reception on May 18, 2012.
Also awarded during the Opening Reception are this year’s Distinguished Educators in the Arts. C.F. Payne, who has taught at East Texas State University, Miami University of Ohio, and the Illustration Academy, will be honored with the Contemporary Distinguished Educator Award. Jack Potter of the School of Visual Arts will be awarded posthumously. This prestigious award is presented to an educator who has made a strong impact on illustration as both a teacher and an artist.
