About the Exhibit:
Rising from the gritty printing district of lower Manhattan, McLoughlin Brothers blew the international picture book trade wide open with their well known use of colored illustrations, which were hand stenciled during the firm’s early years and printed with cutting edge technologies like chromolithography and branding techniques that are still strikingly modern today. Laura Wasowicz, curator of Children’s Literature at the American Antiquarian Society is sharing her research on the New York picture book publisher with the ground breaking exhibit of over 1700 picture books, games, paper toys, publishers’ catalogs and original art work.
