Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud and hands-on workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.
Since graduating from Virginia University in 1983, James Yang has won over 250 awards for excellence in illustration including Best in Show for 3x3 Magazine. James work can be seen in various publications worldwide and his book Bus!Stop! (Viking 2018) was named an outstanding picture book by The New York Times. You can see his illustration on the subway wallpaper on the trains for the New York Metropolitan Authority. James currently lives in Brooklyn while happily working for publications, design firms, ad agencies and children’s picture books!
James will start his workshop with a brief presentation of his work, including Bus! Stop! then he will lead the class in creating collages from paper to design a cityscape and use paints or markers to add to the drawings. The class will help children learn how to use simple shapes to create dynamic art. Great for ages 5 and up!
$25 covers admission and workshop for 1 adult + 1 child. Additional children are $10/each.
While you're here, visit our dining room and patio for lunch or refreshments. Open 11:00am - 3:00pm.
