About Sarah Sokol:
Sarah Sokol received her BFA in Interior Design at Pratt Institute and spent three years designing commercial kitchens for clients like Alex Stupak, the Meatball Shop and Andre Balasz. However, inspired by the creativity of the Burning Man Community, Sarah set out to strike a balance between her lifelong love of fashion with her training in design. When Sarah went to Burning Man for the first time, she discovered the limitlessness of the imagination and a desire to create quality headpieces which expressed her inner self as well. Having been further inspired by Anya Caliendo’s work, Sarah went to study under the milliner in her Advanced Couture Millinery course. There, she learned detailed techniques of couture millinery; techniques she practices today in her studio. Taking two dimensional materials and creating a sculptural statement to be worn on top of a human head became the most amazing challenge to Sarah — both structurally and creatively. Sarah Sokol currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, in the neighborhood where she was born and raised, where she owns and operates Sarah Sokol Millinery, Inc. She is a member of The Milliner’s Guild in NYC and was featured in The New York Times along with them. She has also studied millinery abroad in England under Ani Townsend (Milliner's Guild, Bristol), from whom she learned to make a variety of new hat styles and work in new materials.
