Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud and hands-on workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.
On December 15th, join acclaimed author and illustrator of The Doldrums book series, Nicholas Gannon, for a book talk and workshop centered on his latest book, The Doldrums and The Helmsley Curse, which is represented in this year’s The Original Art exhibition at the Society highlighting the best of this past year’s illustrated children’s books. Nicholas will speak about his writing and illustration process for the Doldrums and then lead a workshop aimed at helping participants learn different ways to confect their own ideas through words and pictures.
Nicholas Gannon is an author and illustrator of books for children. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York City, he wrote and illustrated his first book, The Doldrums, by accident. The misunderstanding got bigger and resulted in a second book, The Helmsley Curse. The Doldrums series has been sold to fourteen countries and translated into many languages. It was a good accident. Nicholas is currently working on new book projects.
RSVP required $25 covers admission, workshop, signed book and snack for 1 adult + 1 child. Additional children are $10/each. All art materials provided.
Suggested age for this workshop is 7 -13 years.
