Located in a 19th century carriage house on the Upper East Side, the Society of Illustrators unique space offers a warm and intimate setting surrounded by illustrations from the past two centuries.

The Society is available to accommodate a wide range of private events including family celebrations, weddings, reunions, holiday parties, corporate events, meetings, and more!  Choose from any of our available spaces- including the galleries, the library and our outdoor terrace – for your next event!

The Galleries

Host an elegant reception and dinner, or enjoy the space for your next corporate gatherings, banquets, or group meetings. The Society of Illustrators is the home to three levels of gallery space:

The Main Floor Gallery, located on the main level, is a spacious gallery showcasing our current rotating exhibits. The space can accommodate up to 200 guests for cocktails and 80 for seated events. The Main Floor Gallery includes a stage and comes equipped with audiovisual equipment. Intimate lighting can be adjusted upon request.

The Lower Gallery is easily accessible from the Main Floor Gallery and includes a small screening room. This room can be available for video projections or can be converted into a photo booth.

Set against a backdrop of exposed brick and artwork from the Society’s rotating exhibits, the third floor Garden Gallery can hold up to 150 guests for cocktails and 80 for seated events.  The garden terrace adjoins the Garden Gallery and can be used for additional seating. The 128 Bar adjoins the Garden Gallery.

Table and chair rentals are available for theater-style seating, cocktail receptions, seated dinners, and workshops.

The 128 Bar

The Society’s 128 Bar is located within the third floor Garden Gallery. Visitors to The 128 Bar will find a perfect pairing of new and old, with modern touches to classic favorite cocktails. The bar is situated under Norman Rockwell’s “The Dover Coach”, a large-scale oil painting featuring Christmas travelers created for The Saturday Evening Post. A piano is located near the bar and the built-in sound system can accommodate live music, DJs, or playlists.

The Library

Located on the fourth floor, the private library is perfect for small meetings.  The library seats 20 and features a large conference table, equipment for presentations including projection and audio, and comfortable armchairs for a more relaxed atmosphere. The library can also be used for research and holds a large collection of reference material and literature on illustration, animation, comic and cartoon art.

In addition to meeting space, the Library can covert to accommodate multiple uses including private classes and sketch sessions, as well as a dressing room for weddings and other private functions.

The Garden Terrace

Enjoy a cocktail reception or sit-down dinner on our beautiful garden terrace surrounded by seasonal landscaping.  Located outside the Garden Gallery and 128 Bar, the terrace can hold up to 40 for cocktails and 30 for seated events.

The terrace can be tented to accommodate all-weather events. Tent rental is available upon request.
